Other causes of eye bags could be as a result of poor diet, sinus problem, allergic reaction, lack of enough sleep, hangovers or a change of weather. Depending on the reason behind your problems, you may be able to easily get rid of them. Read on to find out how to get rid of baggy eyes.

Consider using an Eye Cream

There are so many different brands of creams and lotions that are mainly formulated for reducing baggy eyes. Try several until you settle of the one that works for you. Avoid the old fashioned hemorrhoid cream as it irritates the skin around your eyes. Rather, go for retinol cream instead.

Cool down your eyes

Got baggy eyes? Time to chill them! Try using cold spoons. This simple remedy is very effective. It helps by tightening up the skin around the eyes and also relaxing the blood vessels thereby providing instant relief to baggy tired eyes. Simply put 5 to 6 metal spoons in your refrigerator for 10-15 minutes. Hold the round part of the cold spoons against your eye for some minutes until the spoon gets warm. When it warms to your normal body temperature, replace it with a cold one and repeat the process until you get relief. Additionally, cut back on the amount of salt you consume to prevent water retention in the body.

hydrateThis is the simplest way to get rid of baggy eyes. Drink plenty of water. When your body is properly hydrated, there are minimal chances of water retention that can cause puffy eyes or any other parts of your body to swell. Water is also great in flushing out toxins in the body. To remain well hydrated, consume about 8 to 20 glasses of water daily. Keep off caffeinated and carbonated beverages as they can dehydrate you.

Get some rest

One major cause of baggy eyes is fatigue or lack of enough sleep so ensure you get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night. If you cannot get that amount of sleep, get some naps during the day. Staying awake for too long forces your eyes to work extremely hard which makes the excess fat and fluid amass around your eyes giving you that baggy eye look. Feeling sleepy often will make your skin pale and cool resulting to puffy eyes.

Change your sleeping position

Do you sleep on the side or on the stomach? Gravity may cause fluid to gather under your eyes which can be the reason you have those eye bags. Try sleeping on your back since by sleeping in this position, water will not pool under your eyes overnight. Furthermore, sleep with your head a bit elevated with an extra pillow to help drain excess fluids.

Stop smoking

Are you looking for a reason to stop smoking? Smoking dries and weakens the skin on your face. Quit smoking and save yourself from swollen, baggy eyes.

Deal with your allergies

If the main cause of your puffy eyes is allergy triggered, then you will need to see a doctor to control your allergies. This is the only way to get rid of baggy eyes once and for all. You doctor may suggest an allergy medication or simply change of diet.

Chilled Cucumbers

Chilled cucumbers are a great remedy for treating puffy eyes. Cucumbers contain enzymes and astringent properties that help in reducing inflammation and also tightening the skin. This remedy will also help in getting rid of wrinkles and the dark circles that surround your eyes.

Simply slice a cucumber into thick slices and place the slices in your refrigerator for about 15 minutes. Put the cold slices on your eyelids until they get to your normal body temperature. Repeat the process till your eyes stop looking puffy.

Protect your eyes from direct UV rays

You always have some sunscreen cream to prevent your body from sunlight. Do you do the same for your face? Over-exposure to direct sunlight will make the skin under your eyes to wrinkle or sag. Ensure you put on sunglasses, sunscreen and hats to protect your face from harmful UV rays.

Avoid over consumption of alcohol

Taking one glass of wine is alright, but resist the urge to overdo it. Alcohol dehydrates the body. If the delicate skin around your eyes is weak, there are higher chances of suffering from baggy eyes. If you take a glass of wine, ensure you drink enough water before going to bed and apply a moisturizer around your eyes.

Treatment for baggy eyes

Botox treatment
If you want to completely get rid of baggy eyes, you will need to try getting treatment for your problem. You can take care of everything with a simple procedure that will take less than one hour. Still, you can get an injection or have the bags eliminated with the use of lasers. A dermatologist can inject wrinkle fillers to minimize the appearance of under eye baggage. When they are combined with Botox, these fillers will make you look youthful. The downside is that the results are temporary and the procedure is expensive. An injection will last up to 8 months, so it might not really be worth spending so much on it. On the other hand, an eyelift will last several decades.

An eyelift will involve melting the fat inside the under eye bags and then concealing the lose skin that remains. This is an outpatient procedure that will take about an hour and you will need two weeks to recover fully. Although it’s costly, the results will last for over 20 years. When compared to the cost of the injections, this is better.

If all the above methods fail, you can always hide your baggy eyes with some make up and no one will notice.
